Two Pushkas
For the first 50 years of my life (and probably for hundreds of years before that), shuls seemed to do just fine with just one tzedakah box. For the past three or so years, I have observed two tzedakah boxes; one for "bedek habayis" (upkeep of the shul) and the other for the Rabbi's diascretionary fund.
I find this disconcerting.
I like things simple, particularly early in the morning. I used to be able to drop a buck into the pushka and that was that. Now I have to decide between bedek habayis and RDF. That's a lot to ask at 6 a.m.

In B'nei Yesurun in Teaneck, there are about 4 or 5 boxes (IDF, Shul, Bedek Habayis ect....).

MoC! I'm ashamed of you! You should be able to afford a buck in each, without even a moment's hesitation.

We have a Bdek Habayis (some assume it is for the poor but it is not) and one for Hatzalah. I am trying to get a charity box for a disctertionary fund but am meeting resistance. I can't figure out why.

well, maybe check a little better how the money is being used. just giving to tzedakah is not sufficient. you have to give wisely.
now, assuming both are being used wisely, then make it easy on yourself. all 29 day hebrew months goes to one, and all 30 day months to the other!

what i usually do is take a 50 and rip it in half and put half in each. This way, the gabbaim have to get along if they want to utilize the money.Brad
