More Stupid Rules Coming Our Way

In the wake of the attempted on board airline bombing the other day, the TSA has apparently instituted more stupid rules that will make flying for everyone even more unpleasant than it already is.

Instead of biting the profiling bullet and closely scrutinizing those who fit a certain bill, the TSA will now more thoroughly pat down children, prohibit the use of electronic equipment in the last hour of flights (huh?) and not let people get up from their seats towards the end of flights. All this will do is drive travelers even more crazy because everyone knows (including the TSA) that this is not an effective way to prevent terrorism. Mainly, it's just reactive nonsense (like preventing people from bringing in liquids; what a joke!).

Is there anyway to complain about this stupidity?

The TSA is not really a security regime; it's a federal employment scheme. The bureaucrats are constrained by political correctness concerns, have absolutely no discretion to use their judgment and are governed by a rulebook of silly, reactive rules that focus on things, not people. There is no hope.

(So, for example, since this guy used a syringe and tole the security people he was a diabetic, life will probably become more difficult for diabetics who need to take insulin shots).

Each new TSA rule is an attempt to prevent something already done that will not be repeated in the same way, since terrorists keep up to date on the new rules. If the terrorists want to cripple air travel, all they need to do is to provoke TSA and its Canadian and European counterparts into enough onerous, senseless rules---and we're getting rather close to that situation. TSA will not screen travelers intelligently, as the Israelis do, because typical TSA managers and personnel are not too bright and do not recognize the Muslim form of terrorism (the only form really active). Once they're unionized per Obama, they will get dumber yet.

    Bob

I agree with everything you said except the last point; as a frequent flyer, I don't believe it is possible for them to get any dumber.

Years ago, an agent (possibly before they were all TSA employees) was going through one of my carry-on bags at Reagan National airport in DC. Seeing my Hebrew Siddur, she asked if it was a Koran. I explained I was Jewish, and everyone in the vicinity had a good laugh.

But nowadays, what TSA agent would be so bold as to ask if a traveler's book was a Koran? That would probably violate some rule.
