This article- like the book it refers to is overly simplistic and doesn't say much. I read Rabbi Berger's part in the book and his research is quite flawed and simple in nature. Keep in mind that he did this study 15 years ago. The book is very pro-YU, not suprisingly considerng they commissioned the research and he was a graduate student there. The last part of the book discusses if the year in Israel stays with the students and he bases his study on a one year look back- how about 5-10 years later. According to the study, 75% of the students say that a year after they came back to the US, they plan on having a chavrusa during their adult life. Take a look at the shuls/ bais Medrashim- are 75% there?

Are you referring to the middle part of the book where Dan Jacobson's thesis is all about his interviews a year or 2 later

A point I had made to a writer of one of the sections.
BTW it would be worth reading Prof Waxman in the book and he at least alludes to all not being right in the state of 21st century US Orthodoxy.
