Shlomo Katz on JM in the AM

Shlomo Katz just appeared with Nachum Segal on JM in the AM. I will post the link to the archives shortly. It was a very nice session. I was supposed to be there too (the main topic was K'Shoshana) but I got nailed in traffic.

Talk about addiion by subtraction.

And, a reminder that Shlomo will be at Aish Kodesh motsai Shabbos at 8 p.m.

K'Shoshana Video

Arutz Sheva has a wonderful video (in Hebrew) focused on the new CD, K'Shoshana. It features some snippets from the recent concert in Yerushalayim as well as interviews with Shlomo Katz, Chaim Dovid and Aron Razel.

Dov Bear Weighs In on Keshoshana

The Bear (not unlike me) doesn't know much about music. But he does know two things. He knows what he likes and what he doesn't like.

And he likes K'Shoshana.

(The only small thing in his very sweet review that I take issue with is his statement that there is nothing in the CD that is likely to end up sung in Shabbos morning tefilah. I actually think the title song is likely to be adapted to Kedusha (and, while I'm at it, I think Borei Olam has a decent chance of getting picked up in the wedding band circuit).)

Heichal Haniginah on K'Shoshana

Yitz has a very positive review of K'Shoshana. In addition, he has a very insightful discussion of the "hidden Carlebach music phenomenon". See my comments as well.

Seraphic Review

Robert Avrech has just posted a very positive (and entertaining) review of K'Shoshana. He throws in a good word about U'Shmuel B'Korei Sh'mo for good measure!

(For some reason I can't link up to the specific post but I'll try later.)

BloginDm on K'Shoshana

The blogger who originally inspired me to start MoC (ok, now you know whom to blame), Hasidic Musician over at BloginDm, favorably reviews K'Shoshana.

As I said with respect to U'Shmuel B'Korei Sh'mo, while I appreciate all favorable reviews, I particularly appreciate his because of my deep respect for his views on music.

There is still time to purchase both K'Shoshana and U'Shmuel B'Korai Sh'mo in time for Chanukah.

K'Shoshana, Shir Chadash Version

UPDATE: LIVE VIDEOS Through Chaim

The motsai Shabbos gig by Aron Razel, Shlomo Katz and Chaim Dovid at Shir Chadash in the German Colony in which they debuted the new CD was a huge success. Standing room only and I am told people were turned away.

The trio went through the CD in order and then played some individual stuff. MHW was there and really liked it (but, of course, she's not totally objective).

If anyone was there I'd love to get your feedback.

I am hoping to put something like this together in the US, perhaps in February.

There Are Just So Many Deep Thoughts I Can Handle At Once

Owing to the huge volume of crazy stuff that is going on simultaneously at work and the huge amount of mental energy I am consequently expending, there is very little mental energy left in my brain for this blog. It is therefore very unlikely that I will write anything more profound than that the Met's ship be sinking or that The Toddler is very cute or that there are only five weeks left to the Alyn Bike Ride.

Even those topics may be hard to address in the next couple of weeks what with my workload and the coming chagim.

Don't say you weren't warned.

Oh, and, BTW, the new CD is offically at the printer.

Lot's To Write About...

...But no time.

I came into work early today to get a jump on the return of everyone in my market. Now I have to spend the rest of the day in courtside seats at the U.S. Open with one of my board members. I know, it's tough, but someone has to do it.

These are the things I would like to cover:

* An update on Judah's bar Mitzvah. In a nutshell, it was one of the most emotional and holy Shabbasos I've ever spent.

* The schizoid Mets. They are now almost exactly where they were before the four game debacle in Philadelphia but they are eight games closer to winning the division.
Added bonus: Requiem for the Yankees.

* The triple threat. How we plan to potty train the Toddler at the same time we wean her off her botle and, even worse, her pacifier. Chez MoC is going to be a danger zone over the next few weeks.

* The New CD. The music is ready; the artwork is not.

A Song From The New CD

Chaim posts a link to a song, Borei Olam, from my forthcoming CD, K'Shoshsana.

Two points. First, when I say "my" new CD, I use that term very, very loosely. I had virtually nothing to do with it except to raise the money and approve the songs selected by Aron Razel, Shlomo Katz and Chaim Dovid (not that I did anything on that front other than say yes). I wasn't even in the studio once this time.

Second, you may be wondering why Chaim is posting the link and not me. Answer: Because I'm technologically challenged and even though some very nice fellow bloggers tried to direct me, I found it much easier to punt this over to Chaim.

In any event, I hope you enjoy. If all goes well the CD in its entirety should be out around the time of the Yomim Noraim.

The New CD: Almost Ready

Aron Razel will be completing the final mix of the new CD early next week. We are working hard on the cover art and the insert. If all goes well, it will be ready before the chagim.

In the meantime, I'm hoping to distribute a marketing CD containing one of the tunes and distributing it to friends and colleagues. If I can figure out how, (and figure out the royalty implications), I will post it here as well.

I still can't say much more. The CD will consist of 10 songs and feature Aron Razel, Chaim Dovid and Shlomo Katz. Aron wrote the arrangements and did the heavy lifting in what was a very collaborative effort among the musicians. Fortunately, there is no musical involvement whatsoever by MoC. I have not yet heard a decent mix but I'm excited by what I did hear (an extremely rough version of 9 of the songs). We'll soon see (or hear).

The New CD

We are making good progress on the second project of my not-for-profit company, Shirei Shmuel, Inc. Aron Razel, Shlomo Katz and Chaim Dovid will be going into the studio in Israel in about ten days to start the recording process.

I'm still not at liberty to discuss the CD in more detail but I will soon. I can say that I have heard sketches of the material and am very excited.

I have raised a good portion of the money (and am contributing a significant portion myself) but I am still looking for one or two more sponsors. I need to find the last $5,000 to complete the CD. If anyone out there is interested, drop me an email.
